The Purpose
of the Lurgan Church
is to Glorify God
by Making Disciples
who Follow Christ's Example.
Join us for worship as we give praise to Jesus Christ!
We worship with a blended style of worship, with hymns and modern songs of genuine praise to our Savior.
We love children! On Wednesday nights we have KidZone which is from 7-8 pm. It is an exciting evening for children from pre-School to 8th grade. We teach God's Word in a variety of ways.
During worship on Sunday morning we also have junior church for K-5.
During Sunday School we have classes men and women at 9 am.
We meet on Wednesday nights at 7 pm for Bible study.
Sunday nights is our Grow in the Word class at 7 pm.
We seek to show others God's love through a number of ministries that help and serve others in our community and our world.
We teach Scripture and everything we do is based on the authority of God’s Word. We desire to grow in the knowledge of God by hearing His Word, studying His Word, and by living our lives according His Word in order to bring God glory.
The Bible
We believe that the Bible, Old and New Testaments, is the Word of God. It contains the only true way of salvation. Every true Christian is bound to acknowledge and receive it, with the influence of the Spirit of God, as the only rule and guide.
The Triune God
We believe in the only true God - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are one - the Father in the Son, the Son in the Father, and the Holy Spirit equal in essence or being with both. This triune God not only created the heavens and the earth and everything in them, but sustains, governs, protects, and supports it all.
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is both God and man. He became a man by the power of the Holy Spirit in the virgin Mary and was born of her. He is the Savior and mediator of the whole human race, if they accept with full faith in Christ the grace offered in Him. We believe that Jesus suffered and died on the cross for us, was buried, rose again on the third day, ascended into heaven, and now sits at the right hand of God interceding for us. He will come again at the last day to judge the living and the dead.
The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is equal in being with the father and the Son. He comforts the faithful and guides them into all truth.
The Church
We believe in the Holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the resurrection of the body, and eternal life.
The United Brethren in Christ was the first denomination which had its beginning in the United States. This beginning took place in 1767 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in Isaac Long's barn. A great meeting took place that day as the Rev. Martin Boehm preached. At the end of the sermon, Philip William Otterbein, the pastor of the German Reformed church in Lancaster, stood and embraced Boehm and said aloud "Wir sind Bruder," which means "We are Brethren." The result of this meeting led to the formation of the first denomination formed in America, the “United Brethren in Christ.”
The Lurgan Church can trace its roots back to 1856 when the first church building held worship, and later became United Brethren. The first church in Lurgan was moved from Pleasant Hall and was known as Center Church. A new church was built and dedicated in 1904. A basement was dug in 1949. And in 1964, a groundbreaking service took place and our current church was built and was dedicated to God.
As church leadership discussed and prayed about our future of ministry, the need for additional space became apparent. In June of 2014 the Family Life Center was dedicated. An office and two classrooms have been added as well as major updates to the kitchen area and restrooms. The Lord Jesus Christ has poured out many blessings on Lurgan Church.
The Family Life Center (FLC) was dedicated in June of 2014. It is an awesome facility that seats 225 people. This addition extends our ability to provide ministry to the children, youth, adults and to the surrounding community. This provides an excellent opportunity for team sports, youth programs, church gatherings and various other ministries. As well as a facility for our community that is available upon request for a nominal fee. Email flc@lurganchurch.com or call 717-530-1753
